Gotta Love OSHA Courses That Include Beer Breaks

Posted in Federal Labor Law, Random Musings, State Labor Law by laborlawguy on February 4, 2009

An undercover reporter for New York’s Daily News recently paid $125 to attend an OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) 10-hour training class.

The class was over in 2 hours, 17 minutes. Held above a Bronx bar, the course enabled several of the attendees to slip away on breaktime to sip beers downstairs.

Nice gig if you can get it. I suppose all the attendees were awarded OSHA course completion certificates at the conclusion.

(Mind you, these courses are not run by OSHA, but by OSHA-certified trainers.)

When pressed, OSHA said it was looking into the matter. Will that include sampling the available beers at the site? Gotta make sure that the bar has its proper OSHA notifications posted.

Ha…thats awesome. Sounds like a typical OSHA training session. Goofing off and having someone (OSHA certified trainer) pencil whip a piece of paper that says you have been trained to be OSHA compliant. It’s funny how all you need is documentation to avoid fines and lawsuits but can be totally ignorant and still not have clue about what your doing.

Anyone who takes a few days to take the OSHA trainer course can become a trainer, so there are many bad apples out there amoung the good trainers. However, now the OSHA 10 hour construction course can be taken online, and it is approved by OSHA at . Because the trainee has to answer questions as the course progresses, they cannot leave the computer unless they log out. So you know the trainee gets all the required material. It also is available in spanish, so you do not have to worry about those trainers who teach to them in english and the trainee does not understand.

NY PESH is no better than OSHA. The management of DOSH arrange meetings around retirement parties and the taxpayers foot the bill. How nice it is to spend taxpayers money. Supervisors like James Cutran often take trips to Albany and hang loose. James plays a mean guitar. He tries to claim that he knows safety. He majored in music while in college and barely finished high school. He fakes his knowledge.
